I am a Board Certified, Registered art psychotherapist and a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania and New Jersey,
and have been in private practice since
1980. Although trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, my approach is eclectic and incorporates various nonverbal and verbal
methods within the treatment setting.

Individual and group art psychotherapy
treatment and counseling services for
adolescents and adults are offered in my
practice. I also work with couples and families, utilizing expressive techniques that are invaluable as they expedite treatment. Sandtray therapy, a projective tool involving the creation of stories with figures and objects with sand, is one such modality. The visual stories are talked about in depth, much like an art rendering, and the relevance to one's personal life is subsequently explored.

My most recent publication is entitled Finding Your Voice Through Art Therapy: The Art and Journaling Workbook For Disorded Eating (Jacobson-Levy & Foy-Tornay, Gurze Books, 2010). I have also published numerous audiotapes, journal articles, professional newsletters and a book chapter. As the former video editor for ArTherapy, I continue to review manuscripts for several professional journals. The international Society for the Study of Trauma & Dissociation also invited me to contribute the expressive therapies treatment segment for their publication Guidelines for Treating Dissociative Identity Disorder in Adults (2005 & 2010). Treating trauma/dissociation is one of my clinical areas of expertise, in addition to eating disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety.

In addition to my clinical practice, I am an Assistant Clinical Professor at Drexel University and provide clinical supervision to graduate students in the Creative Arts in Therapy Program. I also supervise candidates seeking their ATR-BC (professional credentials related to art psychotherapy), offer case consultations to other therapists, lecture nationally and internationally, and attend conferences in the United States and abroad.

I am a credentialed, professional member of the American Art Therapy Association, Delaware Valley Art Therapy Association, International Society for the Study of Trauma & Dissociation, and National Eating Disorders Association. In 1996 I received the Honorary Lifetime Member Award from the Delaware Valley Art Therapy Association, which is a prestigious annual award bestowed upon a professional art therapist for contributions to the field.

Lastly and most importantly, I love my work and have never lost my
passion for the field of art psychotherapy. “I believe that art
psychotherapy is a healing tool and a life force. It enhances one's
existence, one's lived experiences, and helps one find their niche in the world.” Inside Magazine (Fall Issue, 2008) contains an article on art psychotherapy, where you may learn more about my philosophy and the clinical use of my therapy dog Colin within my practice.
